I’ve been a bad Blog Tour participant.  Let’s fix that now.  I don’t want to drop out, but the topics aren’t ones that have anything to do with the blog.  I don’t write about my life as often as most of the others.  I’m not very introspective, either.

Aug 9-“What song’s lyrics so accurately describe you or a period in your life that you could’ve written it yourself?”  “Paradise by the Dashboard Light”  and “Only the Good Die Young.”
Aug 16-“Sacrifices-What has been the most significant sacrifice you have made in your life, to date?  Why did you choose to make that sacrifice? Was it worth it? Do you miss whatever it was that you sacrificed? And would you do it again if you had to?”  Can’t think of one.   Sometimes, it’s advantageous to have a bad memory.
Aug 23-Looking back, what minor event in you life made a major outcome on how things turned out?   Deciding to host our first exchange student was a whim.  It’s now a huge part of our lives.
Aug 30-Do you believe that everyone has one true love? Has there ever been “one who got away” in your life?  No.  I’ve met a few people that I felt were soul-mates.  It isn’t necessarily a sexual attraction.  Based on that, I think people can have more than one true love.

This week’s blog topic is -“How far away do you live from where you grew up?”   In my mind, millions of kilometers.  In real life, about 20 miles and a state line.
We originally settled here because of residency requirements for Husband’s work.  Now we just live here because it’s inexpensive, and the airport is nearby.
It’s probably why we work with exchange students, so they see the world, and go out into it.

Last week’s blog topic was “If you could go back and inhabit the body of your younger self, when would you go and what would you do?”
I’d go back to about 17, and tell myself I looked great.  5’8″, 125 lbs, and nice looking.  I’d also look in the mirror and tell myself I was a good person.   The entire L’Oreal “I’m worth it” thing.
My family never told me I was pretty, and I never thought I looked good.  Now I look at old photos, and it would’ve made a difference.  I was always an overachiever, but a disappointment to my mother.

Last week’s topic was “If you could live in any time period, which one would it be? And why?”  (We missed the week before.)  Easy one!  Now.  No hesitation.

  1. If I was born any earlier than 100 years ago, I’d probably die young.  My vision is 20/2500.  I can’t see two inches in front of my face.  I’m sure I’d have an accident.
  2. I enjoy electricity and running water.
  3. I prefer to think my chicken comes from the grocery store.  I don’t want to know anymore than that.
  4. No ‘happy pills’ way back when.  I probably would’ve been locked up as a crazy lady.
  5. I’m a feminist.  No way I could’ve been property of a man, or been able to subjugate myself.  See locked up crazy lady.

Look at all the the advances and new inventions in the last 40 years!  This is an exciting time to be alive.

Things that came into common usage after me:  color tv, tv remotes, boomboxes, cassette tapes, 8 track tapes, cds, home video cameras, dvds, ipods, discmans, walkmans, (I used to listen to a little AM transistor radio.) computers, internet, digital anything, microwave ovens, disposable lighters and razors, safety razors, VHS and Betamax tapes, fast food drive-thrus, cell phones, cordless phones, phones in colors other than black or ivory,  food processor,  contraceptive pills, calculators, soft and gas permeable contacts, acrylic paint, cans didn’t have pull tabs to open, plastic bottles, MRIs, barcodes, Sharpies,  calculators instead of adding machines, MS-DOS, Windows, disposable cameras, Nintendo, ATMs, kevlar, permanent pressed fabric. DNA fingerprinting, bread makers, and my beloved laptop!

Blog Tour 13 Movie

This week’s topic was If you could make a movie about your life, what would it be called and who would you cast as the main players?

I really have to start making an effort to answer these questions if I want to be part of the Blog Tour.  I guess I thought it was going to be more about current events and politics.

Title: Just Different  because we always tell the students “It’s not better or worse, it’s just different.”  OK, and I’m a little different, too.

Cast:  When I was growing up, I thought my father looked like Donald Sutherland, and mom resembled Liza Minnelli.  We’ll add a dozen young (15-30) actors from other countries and cultures.  Gael Garcia Bernal-Mexico,  Natalie Portman-Israel, Kal Penn-Indian heritage, Mischa Barton-England, Rupert Grint-England,  Keisha Castle-Hughes-New Zealand/Australia, Zhang Ziyi-China, Rachael Taylor-Tasmania, and some unknowns.  I can be played by Joan Cusack, I think we’re alike.  Husband will be either Bruce Willis or Pierce Brosnan-they both have that deceptive look.  Husband looks laid-back, but he never misses anything, nor does he ever forget.  They both seem like they love their families, and always have a twinkle in their eye.

No clue.  Don’t care.
